Villard-de-Lans belongs to the Regional Natural Park of Vercors. The town is situated at the foot of La Grande Moucherolle, the second peak of Vercors, the highest point at 2285 m. The Villard-de-Lans ground promotes water infiltration, hence the lack of natural lakes. However, Villard-de-Lans has a seasonal pond, Lake Lauzet, which is filled by capillary action to the snow melts .
